WHO IS BUTTER CHICKEN COMPANY?

Asad Sheikh, the restaurateur who opened two successful locations of Bombay Street Food this year, is gearing up to open his newest concept, Butter Chicken Company in downtown Washington, DC. For Sheikh, opening a fast casual spot completely devoted to Butter Chicken, an iconic Indian dish, is the fulfillment of a long time a dream, so when the perfect downtown lunch crowd location became available at 818 18th Street NW , he quickly grabbed it. Sheikh previously opened award winning restaurants in Northern Virginia (Curry Mantra London Curry House and 1947), before deciding to focus on Washington, DC. Sheikh opened two locations of Bombay Street Food in Columbia Heights and Capitol Hill over the past year, inspired by the bright and vibrant street food flavors he grew up eating in Bombay.

Slated to open Monday, October 21st., Sheikh’s newest concept focuses on just one dish favorite – Butter Chicken, priced at $11 and served with 2 sides and Naan. To prepare for the opening, Sheikh sent Chef/Partner Praveen Kumar to New Dehli to learn directly from the owners of Moti Mahal restaurant, the original Butter Chicken creators, in order to serve the most authentic, original version to DC diners. Sides include classics like Saag Panner (spinach and cheese), Chana Masala (chickpeas with a blend of spices, onions, chilies and tomatoes) and Vegetable Biryani (spicy basmati rice with vegetables). For those looking to amp up the heat, Chicken Tikka Masala, a spicy and sweet chicken in a creamy tomato sauce, is also available. Each morning, the Chef Kumar and team will prepare all of the food from scratch, with doors opening at 11:30 am. According to Sheikh, “We will prepare only 300 servings a day and then ‘were done’ (sold out).”

WHAT OUR CUSTOMER SAY

Your mouth will water once your nose transmits the wonderful smell of the cooking going on right there for you to enjoy to your brain. Then the race is on. Enjoy. I know you will. Fyi: once they run out each day, they go home. So get in line. But, not in front of me.

It's the wife's favorite new place. The name sake is mouthwatering & melts in your mouth. I'm more of a KAREN I don't think anything deserves 5 stars. She bought me a Mango Lassi and it's my kind of sweet but not too sweet. I love too sweet and it doesn't come in a 32oz size if it did my comment would be it doesn't come in a 64oz. They're ecologically compliant so bring your own silicone or stainless steel straw. They're masked up.

A lot of food for the price! The food smelled so good from the street and we weren’t disappointed. Choose from a couple of entrées with two sides. Buffet style walk-through with seating outside or for takeout.
