Washington, D.C. restaurateur Asad Sheikh turns traditional Indian cuisine fast and casual with the Butter Chicken Company, which opened last...
Slated to open Monday, October 21st., Sheikh’s newest concept focuses on just one dish favorite – Butter Chicken, priced at $11 and served with 2 sides and Naan. To prepare for the opening, Sheikh sent Chef/Partner Praveen Kumar to New Dehli to learn directly from the owners of Moti Mahal restaurant, the original Butter Chicken creators, in order to serve the most authentic, original version to DC diners. Sides include classics like Saag Panner (spinach and cheese), Chana Masala (chickpeas with a blend of spices, onions, chilies and tomatoes) and Vegetable Biryani (spicy basmati rice with vegetables). For those looking to amp up the heat, Chicken Tikka Masala, a spicy and sweet chicken in a creamy tomato sauce, is also available. Each morning, the Chef Kumar and team will prepare all of the food from scratch, with doors opening at 11:30 am. According to Sheikh, “We will prepare only 300 servings a day and then ‘were done’ (sold out).”
